Welcome to Summer Mini Card Camp-Day 2!

I'm so glad that you're here!  Welcome to day 2 of Summer Mini Card Camp!  

As The Camp Counselor for Tuesday we are going to make our own Designer Paper.  I'm showing 3 options but you can do your own original idea or pick one of mine.  

We begin with a bit of a scavenger hunt around your home.  Look for items that you can ink up with water based ink (that way you can wash off the residual ink).  

For my tutorial I used the following:

• A piece of rubber gripping mat for under area rugs
• A nylon laundry bag with small holes
• A piece of bubble wrap (the kind with small bubbles)

Go search and see what you come up with!

My other supplies were:

1. 3 bright non-alcohol ink pads.  I used Stampin Up's Melon Mambo, Mango Melody and Emerald Envy
2. 2 colors of coordinating card stock 
3.  White card stock
4. Foam pad for stamping
5. Make up sponges or some other way to transfer ink to paper.  Sponge daubers probably wont work, you want to get it really inky
6. 2 nesting dies, largest should be around 3.25 x 2.25, ovals or circles in that general size range would work.
7. Images or sentiments that fit within the smaller nested die cut

First I'll demo the bubble wrap. Lay it out flat, and I used an 8.5x11 card stock.  I inked the bubble wrap with the stamp pads. (I was worried that using sponges might color between the bubbles, but if you have success, let me know!  Press it down with your hand being careful not to move the paper to avoid smudges.  Lift the paper carefully and admire your DP!

Now for my personal favorite - the laundry bag!  Place your foam stamp pad inside the bag, cover with a piece of scrap paper if needed to protect the pad from ink.  Put your card stock on top of the pad.  I taped my edges of the laundry bag to the counter to keep it from moving.

Ink up those sponges and go to town!!  Here are some photos to help you get the idea (but I think you get it!)

My mind is racing with the possibilities for this...such fun.

Ok, so my last one has a lot of potential, but I'm not thrilled with how my attempt ended up. I will definitely be trying again.  

I cut a piece of rubber rug gripper mat, cut it into a heart shape, then sponged ink onto it.  Then I tipped it over onto white card stock and "stamped" with my 

palm:

My first attempt didn't imprint very well, so I re-inked and tried again, being careful to press the edges of the heart.

Feel free to stop here with a DP that you've created and make any type of card that you like!

Here's what I did with the bubble wrap and the laundry bag DP's:

Each were trimmed to 4.5 x 7.5 inches.  These are horizontal cards so score the 4.5" top to bottom at 2 7/8" and 3 7/8".

Fold the score lines:

Open the card stock flat and place on your Big Shot cutting pad.  Place the CENTER of your larger die on the 2 7/8" score line. Secure with post it note.  Place edge of top cutting pad even with teh 2 7/8" score line and run through your cutter.

Run through cutter, LEAVE CARD STOCK IN PLACE.  Shift the cutting pad to the other side and line up the edge with the 3 7/8" score line.

You will NOT be cutting the one inch space between score lines!

When you're done you will have a swinging panel as you open & close your card!

Cut the 2 nesting dies using your matching card stock.  Glue to swinging panel. Nest the smaller die cut with your image or sentiment onto the swinging panel. There you have it! A Double Swing card!

Here's the important part:
only tape it to the LEFT part of the swinging panel (from the 3 7/8" & left)

Flip your card over.  Then using a second matching die cut, layer the other side. 

Layer the smaller die cut with your image or sentiment to the front and the inside of the swing panel.

Summer Mini Card Camp Begins with Kelly's Tutorial

Hello friends!  Kelly has organized a Mini Card Camp (you can check out her explanation and first tutorial here: Sandcastlestamper)

Her tutorial is "Bold Color - No Color".  How fun!  The idea is to create a background of bold colors and use all white images on top.

Here's my take:



I used Gina K's Pure Luxury white card base because it has a very smooth finish for sponging.

I sponged on the background using Stampin Up Colors:
  Mango Melody
  Pacific Point and
  Emerald Envy.

I punched a small circle, and applied the Mango Melody first.  Then the Pacific Point and lastly the Emerald Envy.  I used circular motions with the sponge to get a whispy sort of look.

Then I removed the circle mask and applied the reverse of the punch.  That protected the previously sponged areas around the white circle.  
Then I added a lot more of the Mango Melody to get the darker sun image.

The Butterflies and their outline is a Memory Box Die "Fluttering Branch".  The branch is glued using a needle nosed glue applicator and the butterflies are glued only on their center, allowing the wings to be lifted giving it some dimension.  Here's a side view:

The Dragonfly is a very old punch from my stash.  All are on a shimmery white card stock from A Muse.

Roses in Her Heart

Here it is - Duel time!! I am pleased to be the hostess for the Dazzlers, and also pleased to work with Judy who is this round's hostess for the Divas.
We selected roses for the theme as it's June and roses have started blooming just about everywhere.

For the image, I picked a oldie-but-goodie from my stash:Uptown Rubber Stamp's "She Who Has Roses".  It was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Recollections 110# card stock.

Designer Papers all came from a personal favorite of mine: SEI's "Field Notes".  Gorgeous!!  Here's the front of my card:

The rose die cut is Stampin Up's Rose Garden thinlit die set.  I sponged it with SU inks and glued it to some of the orange designer paper.  Then fussy- cut and popped it up on the front.

All of the ribbons in the Dazzler kits wre from Michael's and are glittery.

Rhinestones are from Stampin Up.

I colored it with my new Karim Brush Markers!!!  (Very nice markers, can't wait to play with them some more!)

I colored the roses yellow because my Mom has some small yellow roses blooming in her yard now.  The other day she told me that they were her favorites.

A Bargain Hunting Duel

Today is May 15th and time for another round of the Dueling Darlings!

Kelly is this month's hostess for the Divas, and Jeanette is May's hostess for the Dazzlers.  They came up with a unique theme - "Bargain Hunters"!  Kits this month were made with items they obtained as bargains: clearance sales, discount shops, second hand, etc.


Here's what Jeanette included in the kit:

The only thing that I used that was not in the kit is the bright yellow card stock for the base.  The sentiment was colored with a marker from Stampin Up.

Spring in Texas!!!

Today is the 15th and that means another Duel!  Debby is the Dazzler Hostess this month and she lives in Texas.
Well, couldn't we all use a road trip ANYWHERE after all of this stay at home isolation?  I know that I would love to get a little Springtime in Texas right about now.
Turns out that Bluebonnets bloom profusely in the Spring in Texas so that is the theme for this duel.  Here's my card with the lovely image and papers sent by Debby:

Materials:
Image is from Deadbeat Designs, stamped with Color Box Royal Blue Pigment Ink. 

Designer papers are from Paper Studio.  Ribbons and pearls from Offray.

Blue gems are from Parklane.

Image is colored with my Prisma Pencils, not blended with Gamsol.
(Still searching for my other pencils)

I really love everything about this kit, Debby!  

Sure wish I could see the Bluebonnets in person...maybe next year!

International Day of Happiness!

Here it is, time for another duel - despite the Corona Virus pandemic.  Tami is the Hostess for the Divas and Terry (L) is the hostess for the Divas.  Since March 20th is the International Day of Happiness...and coffee makes many people VERY happy...They decided to send us coffee themed kits for the duel.

Here is the front of my card, which features some hand-stamped DP that Terry sent.  I just LOVE hand-stamped DP!!!

Terry stamped the Coffee Blend Turnabout Stamp by Concord & 9th using Dark Chocolate, Warm Cocoa, Warm Glow Amalgam, Chocolate Truffle Amalgam, Tomato Soup and Turquoise Sea inks.  Matching papers by Gina K are Tomato Soup and Turquoise Sea.

Here you can see the left panels opened to show off the embossed card stock that Terry included: Close to Cocoa CS embossed with Sizzix Alterations folder.  Cute, right?
The coffee cup die cut is from Concord & 9th, their Coffee Blend dies & stamp.

I used a sentiment she sent from Hero Arts Monthly kit, August 2018.  I sponged a little of Stampin Up's Cajun Craze ink onto the punched sentiment.  It's pretty close in color to the Tomato Soup color.

A Sweetheart February Duel

The Hostess for the Dazzlers this month is the lovely Shelly...and she sent all of us a LOVELY kit!!

Well, I set my goal to use as many of the contents as possible.  Here's my tag/bookmark card:

White tag/bookmark covered with
the heart designer paper, tied with the pretty, sparkly twine, xoxo's are glittered with Spectrum Noir glimmer pen.

I used the fishtail banner to make a pocket, decorated with more designer paper, red heart (again glittered with SN marker), Paper Studio gems and a bow.

The top features the "Love" cutout from Shelly's kit.

Here's a picture of the bookmark/tag:

The inside panel features the embossed heart paper and more of the pretty papers from Shelly.  I colored the tag and sentiment, glittered the tag with SN marker and added the glitter ribbons and hearts from the Paper Studio.

There were just a few of the items from Shelly's kit that I didn't use, but it sure stretched me to get as many used as I could!  Thank you Shelly for such a generous and fun kit!
